The Hashtag Revolution

I don't care if #MancrushMondays blue, #TransformationTuesdays grey and #WomancrushWednesdays too. #ThrowbackThursdays, I don't care 'bout you. It's #FlashbackFridays, I'm in love! If those days of the week seem familiar to you, then, congratulations! You are officially a member of the #HashtagRevolution.

From what was originally meant to timeline an event on your social network, it has become the movement of Generation Z. Many flock to their smartphones to post updates on their lives, thoughts, and ideas. Even the mighty Apple Industry has caught wind of the hashtag, joining the infamous twitter bandwagon. That of which resulted to the #iPhoneOnly culture on Twitter, Instagram, and the like.

They aren't just metadata tags to categorize posts on social networking sites, they are also social bucket lists that many enjoy following. #100HappyDays is the perfect example of it. To post a 100 photos of your life in a hundred days consecutively, who would have thought that anybody had the time to go through with it?

The #HashtagRevolution is so powerful, that it has already brought together an actual revolution. In the 2009-2010 Iranian election,  millions of twitter users rallied up against the the debatable victory of Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad with the use of the hashtag. The likelihood of a candidate with a catchy hashtag winning an election is far more greater than one who isn't campaigned online.

How far will this culture go? Should we be expecting #JejeJanuary -s or #OksLangOctober-s anytime soon? Or will it just die out like any other fad? With this fast paced, fast growing culture of octothorpes, it might just last forever.

Not A Love Story: Memories

Do you know what the first thing that came into my mind was when I first saw you? Shit. As in sobrang shit. "Shit hes hot", "shit hes so nice", "shit ang gulo niya", "shit asan siya".
I cannot promise you that I'll always agree with you. I can't promise that there will be no fights. I can't promise you that I'll be the same girl that you first met.
What I can promise you, though, is freedom. Freedom to express yourself, to be who you truly are. Freedom to make decisions for yourself and me, but only under the circumstances that they are ethical. Freedom to get mad at me when you know that I've done something wrong. Freedom to love and freedom to decide how to go about it.
The world is a big place, babe. It was you who taught me how to soar so that I can see the world below me. It was you who taught me how to fly so that I can reach my dreams. Lastly, it was you who taught me how to land so that I won't go crashing down to earth, broken and lifeless.
With you, I feel right. With you, I am safe. With you, I am free. With you, I am loved.
Thank you.

An entry post of way back when; to the days when I still cared.

Recalculating: Zambales Vacation with the Crew

The crew and I were invited to go to Zambales by Robert for his 21st birthday. Obviously, how could we say no, right? A night of food, booze, the sand, surfing, etc. Shit was perfect.

Until we found out that it was on the night of the INC (Iglesia ni Cristo) centennial.

It took us an added 3 hours to get to Zambales. You can imagine the stress that Pong (he drove) had to go through. Being the good best friend, I stayed awake for the whole trip. We were lucky enough to be on the leftmost side so some LGOs signalled us to move to the other lane (note: counterflow) if we weren't heading to the Philippine Arena. They opened up a whole lane for the non-INC people. Thank you, LGOs. Huhu.

Honestly, I'm not saying that its the INC's fault. Neither am I judging them because I have a few friends who are INC. I just want to point out that not all people in this country are INC and if you could please just be a little bit considerate of the people who are NOT heading the the Philippine Arena, that would be great.

Mandatory Traffic selfie with Pong and Mari (back)

It was a friggin long trip so we decided to stop over at the nearest gas station to eat. AS USUAL, I"m not in the picture because I took the picture. Huhu.

When we got to Zambales, we just slept. We didn't reach ANYTHING anymore. Here's the crew eating breakfast because yes.

Ugh what a wonderful scenery (minus my feet). I've always loved going to beaches. In my normally fast paced environment, it's nice to get out of town and just chill.

The cutest couple EVER. Hi Myk and Ja. When you two get married, I'll do your prenup photos, okay?

The boys doing boy things.

Aaaand mandatory group shot before we left Zambales.

We stopped over at Subic to eat.

Waldo and the crew says "Thank you for reading! 'Til next time!"

Evenstcapade: UNLEASHED 2

I am a partyphile and I'm not ashamed of it. I live for the music, the lights, and the dancing. When I found out about this free party called Unleashed, I was thinking about going. When I found out that it's a free, WET AND WILD party? I called up my batchmate from the sorority and told her to come with me.

The long line to get the free bag and facepaint.

Note: I didn't have a proper waterproof case for my Sony so I had to cling wrap the entire thing, lens included. Surprisingly, it worked! Problem was, when it started raining, it was difficult to wipe the lens dry since my clothes were wet and my handkerchief was wet as well. It produced nice photos anyway. I think.

I mean, look at that stage. Honestly it looks bigger in the photo (It wasn't THAT big. Probably just as big as 2/3rds of McDonald's Katipunan).

I came really early so that I can take photos. I wanted to enjoy the night so half of the event was assiduous photo taking madness.

This was at around 6 o'clock in the afternoon. It was already drizzling by then.

By 8pm, the madness started to show up.

The organizers put barrels of water around the area so that you can refill your water guns (which were free by the way).

The party was awesome! Only problem was, I had probably 7 friends who either lost their phones, got their bags stolen, or both. It was a free event so you can't really filter out who goes in and who doesn't.

Til next time!

Not A Love Story: Of Love and War

I was hurt. I am still hurt. I still get shivers down my spine when I think about love. Months of excuses and distractions have done nothing to ease the pain. Losing someone is excruciating, much like a bullet to the head. Your body stops functioning, your mind shuts down, and your spirit simply fades away into the void that it originally was. I tried dating around but I just kept getting hurt over and over again. Men of which who were completely different yet had one thing in common: they always raise the same 2 questions. "Is it you?" or "Is it me?"

Mind you, I am not looking for anything. I'm not desperately looking for a lover. I just want somebody that I can take care of. I just want someone who I can grow with and someone who can help me grow. Despite losing all hope in finding the impossible prince charming, a part of me is still open to the idea.

Why is it that we continue to seek love even after being hurt by it? I doubt that the idea of learning from your mistakes fully applies since every person is different therefore the same rules don't apply. Why is it that we still want to care?

Caring makes one weak, Loving makes one defenseless. That is because to open one's arms is to be vulnerable. Just like what Jordin Sparks says: "Love is a battlefield". In the many battles that I have fought, I have scars that cover my whole body, mind, and soul. Yet why do I go on? Why do I take risks? The reason is that Love is worth fighting for.

With him, I am at ease. With him, I am free. Together, we move mountains. Together, we change lives. That is how love should be (I think). It stands on trust, latches on to love, and feeds on change.

Love is war. But like war, I hope it happens, at least, only once in a lifetime.

Tearfully yours,
Kat
