My sister and I decided to have a much needed vacation in Singapore. We booked through Jetstar Asia 3 months prior because they had a flash sale for their Manila to Singapore flights. All we did was pay for our flight to Singapore, then our return flight was free (excluding Travel taxes, of course).
You can click on the photo to get to their website.
Kyra and I arrived 5 hours before our flight. That's 2 hours earlier than the expected arrival time at the airport (just in case some of you don't know, you have to be in the airport 3 hours before your flight). The reason is that we were both paranoid with the APEC traffic and decided to go 5 hours earlier in the hopes that, even with the traffic, we'll be on time. Unfortunately and fortunately, I guess, there was no traffic.
I may have been a little to paranoid with the issue of laglag-bala (bullet dropping) in NAIA. Not only did we wrap our luggage in cling wrap, we wrapped them in clear packaging tape too. It was a bitch to remove, I swear.
I was suprised to see an old highschool friend of mine, JV Poe, at the Jetstar gate. Apparently we were on the same flight! I haven't seen JV since college.
Our flight was splendid. Heck, Kyra and I slept through the whole trip. The flight attendant had to wake us up upon disembarking.
Compared to our own NAIA, Changi was much much more pleasing. The people were courteous and attentive, the whole place smelled like flowers, the bathrooms were clean, and many more other things NAIA should be.
It's depressing to know the cruelties that have been happening in NAIA. It's even more depressing not being able to do anything about it.
We flew in on the 18th, 6 days after my 23rd birthday. We were greeted with such fluorescent flowers (and an allergy attack for me) once we left immigration. They were installations of the recent Deepavali/Diwali festival, a.k.a. the Hindu festival of Lights, that was on the 11th of November. I remember watching videos on snapchat about Diwali on my birthday (thus the research).
From the 1st terminal of Changi (they have 3), we took the Skytrain going to the 3rd terminal. We then took an elevator to the MRT. I've been to Singapore before and I've heard phrase "Singapore is a fine country". I didn't expect that I would be reminded of this 20 minutes after I had just arrived.
"No durian"
I love durian. It's sweet, creamy, and absolutely heavenly. Maybe, just maybe, my nose isn't as keen as it used to be but I really don't find the smell that horrendous. It's probably because of my always stuffy nose (thank you allergic rhinitis).
Honestly, I have absolutely no recollection of where this place is or what it's called. What I do remember is that the food was to die for (and extremely cheap!). One meal was about 2.40 SGD each (at that time, it was approximately 80 PHP). The bowl was probably as big as a fourth of a basketball. Not bad.
I'm not sure what the fuss Singaporeans have about Carlsberg (I'm not a fan of it's flavor), but all of the stalls in the area served their drinks in these beer mugs. The handles were painted in different colors to, probably, identify the owner.
Here's my cousin Koji right after he stole a sip from my Pepsi.
IF ONLY I HAD MORE ON MY THAT DAY, I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT SO MUCH JEWELRY. If ever you're in Singapore, I suggest dropping by Mustafa Center. It's along Syed Alwi Road in Little India.
After walking (and shopping) for 3 hours, we decided to have lunch at Bugis +. We decided to shop a bit more before we ate. That was until we entered the mall and saw Genki.
Yes, Genki.
I love japanese food. I love being lazy. Since Genki is a Japanese restaurant for the lazy, I swear, I was immediately sold.
My favorite dish in the world, Chawan Mushi. The called it something else, though. If I recall, it was Steamed Egg -something.
See this floating conveyor belt machine thingiemajiggie? It works because of magic. Lol, I'm just kidding. It works because of magnets and sensors, and other engineering terms that my sister told me (that I have obviously forgotten). No but seriously, isn't this the laziest thing ever made? You press two buttons then, BANG, your plates are right in front of you. You need to bill out? press that mutherfuckin button. Ahh. I love technology.
Al those plates were just mine. TUBBY AND PROUD.
Out last trip of the day was at Takashimaya in Orchard road. This is th place where I bought the most items. I bought shoes from Charles and Keith, Star Wars apparel from Bossini, Food worth 20 SGD, etc etc.
The Christmas tree was huge. Then again, it was probably just as big as the one Rockwell Powerplant always has.
Oh and there was a Toy sale in the grand lobby, yknow, no biggie.
Note the huge Imperial trooper head by the middle row.
Tita Badj and Azumi on our way to the nearest McDonald's
We ended our day in McDonald's near Lucky Plaza. I'm sorry but can someone please explain to me why our shake shake fries don't have seaweed flavor? Why?
They even have a "make your own burger" thing. Grabe McDonald's Philippines, up your game naman.
That wraps up my first day in SG. Can't wait to post day 2 of my vacation, aka Legoland Malaysia!
